Our Mission

The mission of Prop 8 Films is to use the power of film to create change. We are committed to creating compelling documentary films that champion social justice issues to educate, inform, and inspire a wide audience throughout the world!

Our History

It all began on November 5, 2008 at a diner in Santa Monica. A group of friends discuss the historic election of Illinois Senator Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. We also discuss the historic passage of Proposition 8, which eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry in California, marking the first time a state constitution was amended in a manner that took away rights previously established from a group of people.

We discussed Prop 8 furiously. We didn't all agree. We did agree, however, that none of us had enough information to understand exactly what had happened. We wanted more information. So we started digging. The outcome of that exploration is Prop 8 Films.

Prop 8 Films was founded on the very simple idea that a community of passionate individuals will support projects that educate, enlighten and motivate people on issues of social import. We believe our fragile and complicated democracy is best served when people have the tools to engage in well-informed discussion. We hope to bring a little something to the big table, a concentrated voice to the national discussion. Thank you for your support, your inspiration and your voice in this mission. It is because of you that we can do what we do.
